Chinese Contemporary Art Yearbook wins Award of Art China (AAC) “Publication of the Year”

Peking University, May 23, 2018: On the evening of May 21st, the twelfth annual award ceremony of Award of Art China (AAC) recognized influential artists at the Palace Museum. The four award categories were “Artist of the Year,” “Young Artist of the Year,” “Curator of the Year,” and “Publication of the Year.” The Peking University team led by Professor Zhu Qingsheng from the Department of History won the “Publication of the Year” award for their work entitled Chinese Contemporary Art Yearbook (2015 and 2016 volumes, Guangxi Normal University Press).

The Chinese Contemporary Art Yearbook is a major academic work published by Peking University’s Center for Visual Studies. It is also considered an important theoretical achievement on art history and art studies. Since its initial publication in 2005, the book has been released in a total of 12 volumes, with the most recent in  2017.

Zhu Qingsheng received the trophy for “Publication of the Year”

Praise for the Yearbook included the comments that “the book provided abundant and intricate literary documents,” and the recognition that “Zhu Qingsheng and his team had conducted extensive research based on different topical subjects.” These comments highlight the quality of research undertaken by Qingsheng and his team.

Their detailed research on China Contemporary Art helps promote the arts to younger generations. As Chinese Contemporary Art Yearbook maintains its annual publication, this symbolizes Zhu Qingsheng’s dedication and commitment to China’s Contemporary Arts.

The award also signifies that Peking University has gained a leading position in the field of art studies in China, as indication of worldwide recognition and commendation from international experts.   

Following the annual completion of Chinese Contemporary Art Yearbook, the Center for Visual Studies will collaborate with Beijing Minsheng Art Museum to organize a yearbook exhibition. The opening ceremony for the 2017 Yearbook Exhibition will be held on June 9, 2018.
