Director of the CISS Wins “Gulf Cooperation Council Reward”

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 8, 2008:  Prof. Zhu Weilie, Director of the Center for International & Strategic Studies (CISS) of Peking University (PKU), is the first Chinese scholar to win the “Gulf Cooperation Council Reward”. This reward was set up by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to improve the research on the problems of the Arab and the Middle East.

 

 

Mr. Abdulla A. Al-Muftah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar, Mr. Feng Zuoku, Vice- President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Prof. Zhu Weilie attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Also in attendance were diplomatic envoys and diplomats from the member countries of the GCC and Arab counties and the related representatives of China. Wu Bingbing, Associate Professor in the Department of Arabic Language and Culture at Peking University, was also invited to attend the ceremony. 

       

Prof. Zhu Weilie graduated from the Department of Oriental Language of PKU in Arabic language in 1965. Now he is the member of the Social Sciences Commission of the Ministry of Education, Director of the Institute of Middle East Studies of Shanghai International Studies University, and Director of Middle East Key Research Project of Ministry of Education. He is also the academician of the Royal Institute of Jordan and the corresponding academician of the Institute of Arabic Language of Egypt. Prof. Zhu Weilie has always been a supporter of PKU CISS.  He made a lecture on “Islamic Culture and the World” and wrote briefing for CISS.
