International Volunteer Day Celebrated Through Series of Volunteer Work

Peking University, Beijing, 8th Dec, 2008: In order to celebrate the 23rd International Volunteer Day on 5th Dec and the 15th anniversary of the voluntary practices of Chinese youths and the University students, a series of activities was held recently on campus by the school league and PKU Young Volunteers Association.

 

On 4th Dec, PKU Young Volunteers Association posted an article titled, “A Proposal for International Volunteer Day” on the University BBS, calling for all students to join in the voluntary services. The next day, the Association put on a review exhibition of major voluntary activities held in the past 15 years. Also, the first issue of its magazine will be dedicated to the stories of Olympic volunteers, giving an overall view of the Olympic voluntary work in the past 2 years. What’s more, a memoir, including photos and videos, will be given to all Olympic and Paralympic volunteers.

 

On 3rd Dec, the Association launched a program called “Keeping the Trash Out of Classrooms,” asking students to work together and keep the campus clean. The Association also organized 35 student volunteers to give classes to over 100 staff workers in their spare time.

 

Young Volunteers Associations from Schools such as the School of Mathematical Sciences, the Dept. of History, the School of Government, the Yuanpei College, the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, the School of Economics, the School of Foreign Languages, the Health Science Center, the Faculty of Archaeology and Museology, the Law School, the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Guanghua School of Management, the School of Engineering, and the School of Journalism and Communication, and many more also hosted a variety of activities on this special occasion.
