4th China Media Innovation Annual Conference Held in PKU

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 25th, 2008: On December 19th and 20th, the 4th China Media Innovation Annual Conference was held in Peking University, jointly organized by Communication Magazine, School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University, and Tsinghua University.

 

The theme of this year’s conference is “Reform, Innovation and Development”. The deputy director of State Press and Publication Administration, Li Dongdong, honorary president of China journalists' association, dean of School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University, Shao Huaze, dean of School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University, Fan Jingyi, deputy director of administration committee of Peking University, Lin Junjing, press secretary of State Press and Publication Administration, Wang Guoqing, executive vice president of School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University, Xu Hong attended the meeting. The deputy director, Li Dongdong delivered a keynote speech. Over 300 senior staff in media reviewed the development of media industry; shared experience in the past 30 years, and discussed the possible strategies to deal with financial crisis as well as the long term development vision.

 

As the 4th China Media Innovation Annual Conference coincides with the 30th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy, the guests discussed with audience about mission and values of China media in the past 30 years, China media brand strategy in the new situation and possible strategies to deal with financial crisis. Vice president of China journalists' association, the president of Jiefang Daily Press, Yin Minghua, shared his understanding of media development;  deputy director of CCTV, Sun Yusheng, explained the development and prospects of CCTV. The president of Liao Ning Daily Press related his experience and understandings about integration of regional resources, building industrial clusters, and improving economy quality; Chairman of the board of Phoenix Satellite Television, Liu Changle, analyzed the profound reform in China media over 30 years with the development of Phoenix as an example; The director of Beijing Television Station, Wang Liangchang, has reviewed the innovation pattern of Beijing Television Station; Vice president of Shanghai Wenguang media group, chairman of first financial media company, Gao Yunfei, analyzed the latest domestic cases of cross-media integration; The director of Qilu Television Station, Yan Aihua, gave a wonderful presentation of the position of regional TV brands for Chinese audience with examples of the development of Qilu Television Station.

 

The most eye-catching subject is the influence of the increasingly severe financial crisis on domestic media. In the conference, the vice president of School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University, professor Chen Gang, analyzed the layout of China media in the financial crisis. A senior consultant of CTR and expert on media research, Yao Lin, the director of Yantai Daily Press, Zheng Qiang, chairman of Modern Media Group, director of Weekly Illustrated, Shao Zhong, Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Literature and Art Publication Group, director of Story magazine, He Chengwei, talked respectively about the problems with China media advertisement, strategic transition in pursuit of creativity, management of high-end fashion periodicals, searching for a new round of focus of ideological emancipation.

 

In the annual conference, awards are given to media leaders, innovative people and innovative media. Among them, the vice president of People's Political Consultative Conference, former chairman, secretary of the Party Group of Hunan Radio & Television Group, Wei Wenlin, won the 'award for special contribution to media development' for his pioneering contributions to the reform and innovations to the Radio & Television Group.

 

It is reported that the organizing committee will follow previous years' practice, inviting well-known media research experts from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University and famous domestic media to form unrivaled expert committee. The expert committee not only makes a comprehensive inventory of national media, but also takes industry insiders' advices and suggestions into account. After that, real name vote will be carried out by 115 media executives (among which 105 were valid votes). At the same time, the organizing committee will refer to the advertisement revenue ranks of all participating media from January to August 2008 provided by the data research firm such as CTR to guarantee the results of the rating is comprehensive, objective and fair.

 

China Media Innovation Annual Conference is a well-known event jointly organized by Communication Magazine, School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University and Tsinghua University. Since 2006, China Media Innovation Annual Conference has been successfully held for 3 sessions and received full support from leaders of related departments and the media industry. It has become one of the most widely accepted media events in China.
