Written Proposal on Anniversary of WenChuan Earthquake
May 12, 2009

Dear Schoolmates:

2:28 p.m. of May 12th, 2008 is a moment we will always remember. The unexpected earthquake accompanied with shaking and rumbling almost turned regions including WenChuan in Sichuan Providence into complete ruin. Within a mere minute, tranquil towns were transformed into rubbles and the local people had to endure traumatic suffering after the unequalled disaster.

A year has since passed, and spots of life and hope are spread in the relics now. However, shadows of pain are still lingering and many people have not yet recovered from their injuries. We cannot forget the pain of those who lost their family members or homes, and it breaks our heart even more to see children who have lost their laughter because of this tragedy. With love there is always hope. PKU Loving Heart Society calls on all students to continue to provide our love and care.

At the time of one-year anniversary of WenChuan Earthquake as well as the 90th May 4th Movement anniversary, we the youth should take on our responsibility and do what we can to contribute to the reconstruction of the quake-stricken areas so that we can bring the warmth of hope to people who have already suffered so much. China Post and China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation started a fundraising in April 2009 with the theme of “Love across a Thousand Miles, Sending Care in Packages”. PKU Loving Heart Society has also participated in this fundraising. We hope the youth will take this fundraising as an opportunity to express our love and responsibility and offer our care through donations, summer programs or other ways to help those who were affected by the earthquake.
