“Song of Youth” to Open at PKU in Honor of May 4th Movement 90th Anniversary

PekingUniversity,Beijing, April 19th,2009: In honor of the 90th Anniversary of the May 4th Movement, Peking University’s Musical Research Department and the China National Opera and Dance Drama Company’s co-production, the musical “Song of Youth”, will open on May first at the Centennial Memorial Auditorium. This will be the first musical appearance for the novel “Song of Youth”.

 

On the afternoon of April 15th, the press release for “Song of Youth” was held at the Centennial Memorial Auditorium. Guest included PKU Party Deputy Secretary Yang He, China National Opera and Dance Drama Company’s Vice Dean Li Xiaoxiang, chairman of the Musical Research Department Wang Zujie, renowned author Chen Jiangong and other leaders. Lead actress playing the heroin in the musical “Lin Daojing”, also producer of the musical, famous musical actress and artist Jin Man lead the other cast on stage. The press conference was hosted by Zhao Wei, head of Peking University Party Publicly Department.

 

At the release, Party Deputy Secretary Yang He explained, PKU has always emphasized building campus culture, he hopes that the production of the elegant musicals “Song of Youth” will help promote classy art, guide the culture wave, and promote the construction of a harmonious campus. The design and style of the character Lin Daojing made its first appearance at the press release; the cast also gave a small preview of the musical, winning grand applause from the audience.

After being produced as movies, television shows, comic strips, “Song of Youth” is about to make it to the musical stage. It will make its début on May 1st, satisfying the cravings of numerous fans.

While remaining true to the original novel, the musical “Song of Youth” has simplified the cast to the five most relevant characters in the story, leaving Lin Daojing, Lu Jiachuan, Yu Yongze, Hu Meng’an and Bai Liping. The Musical’s copy rights will be supported by the National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature. PKU’s Musical Research Department has spent a year on this production and is co-producing this project with the China National Opera and Dance Drama Company. This powerful makeup of a team will be sure to guarantee the high artistic quality of this production.
