2017 Young Teachers’ Symposium held at Peking University

Peking University, March 24, 2017: The 2017 Peking University Young Teachers’ Symposium, co-organized by the Department of Human Resources, the Organization Department and the Center for Faculty Development, was held at Shaoyuan Guest House on March 15. More than 20 teachers from various faculties attended the symposium.

Young teachers are a vital part of the teaching staff, whose development is of great significance in the establishment of a globally competitive faculty, the comprehensive deepening reform and the realization of the “double first-class” PKU dream. The symposium aimed at keeping track of young teachers’ work and life, as well as investing their need for faculty development. The hosting organizations actively learned from the teachers’ suggestions about school management, especially thoseregardingcurrent teachers’ training program.

Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources Yang Rongxiang hosted the symposium. Yang first gave a brief introduction of the teachers’ training program at PKU. He combed through the development of the training since 2012, and illustrated its starting point and the foothold.

Then Deputy Director of the Organization Department and Chairman of the Office of PKU Party School Hu Yixiong delivered a speech. Hu focused on the training course for young and middle-aged teachers. After that, Wang Shengqing, teacher from the Center for Faculty Development, elaborated on the operation of the teaching program for young teachers.

During the discussion session, young teachers shared their ideas and experiences in a harmonious and cheerful atmosphere. The discussion mainly revolved around teaching, research, student management, financial system, teachers’ training and other subjects closely related to the faculty development. The attendants also offered valuable advice on the teacher training program, including the training system, curriculum, form of training, evaluation and so on.

Young teachers at the conference said that the symposium has effectively promoted the communication not only between school departments and the teaching staff, but among the teachers themselves as well, which would help them learn and work better at Peking University. They were looking forward to more symposiums for communication and discussion like this. Relevant departments of PKU wouldpress forward on young teachers training program, leading them to grow faster into the backbone of teaching staff.
