Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn holds special sharing session on mindfulness

Peking University, May 3, 2917: From April 20 to 30, 2017, the "Mindfulness and Psychological Innovation Forum" was held by the Peking University Office of Mentality Education for Students, California Institute of Health and ExPasy Psychological International Education Co-ordination at Beida. Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), was the guest in the special sharing session.
 
On April 29, the "Mindfulness and Psychological Innovation Forum" kicked off. Tong Huiqi, director of the Center for Mindfulness at the California Institute of Health, Liu Haihua, director of Peking University Center for Mental Health, Zhang Chi, deputy director of Beijing Jiaotong University Psychological Quality Education Center, MBSR mentor Yi Wan and 160 students participated in the forum.
 
 

The forum
 
The forum commenced with the host, Zhang Chi, introducing the honorable guests present. Subsequently, the guests gave wonderful and vivid keynote speeches, sharing their understanding of mindfulness. The atmosphere was very relaxing and pleasant.
 
Tong Huiqi invited participants to join the "wells and pebbles" mind practice, which helps to clarify and explore self-intention. After 10 minutes of practice, participants shared their feelings of the exercise.

Yi Wan chose "Happy Creativity" as her theme of sharing. She shared her stories of mindfulness based on her personal experience, as well as its impact on her life.
 
Liu Haihua chose "Mind and Personality Development" as his theme, using his own experience and the core concept of mindfulness to explain its meaning and value in the quest of self-seeking. He also shared his own ideas on Wang Yangming's theory that correspond to the core concepts of mindfulness.

At 9:00 on April 30, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s PKU special sharing session was held at the multifunctional hall of PKU hall. More than 300 students participated in the session.
 
 

The sharing session
 
After a brief introduction to the concept and history of mindfulness, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn invited students to experience mindfulness. The whole process lasted nearly an hour. Following the guidance of Dr. Kabat-Zinn, the participants focused on the perception of their own breathing and cast aside mental thoughts. They concentrated on their perception in the moment, and fully accepted themselves.

Following the invitation of Dr. Kabat-Zinn, students shared the changes that mindfulness brought to them, and their current confusions in learning or in life. Dr. Kabat-Zinn responded to every student and encouraged them to continue practicing mindfulness to life and developing inner peace.

At the end of the sharing session, Zhang Chi presented a traditional Chinese paper-cut and seal to Dr.
Kabat-Zinn, thanking him for his session. Students said that their experience of the session was a great inspiration for them, and they had gained a more profound understanding of the practice and meaning of mindfulness.
