PKU Starting the Recommendation and Enrolment of Exam-Exempted Graduate Students in 2018

Peking University, Sept. 8, 2017: On the afternoon of September 7, 2017, the meeting regarding Peking University’s recommendation and enrolment of exam-exempted graduate students was held in Lijiao building,officially starting the project of 2018. Gao Song, PKU Vice-president and Dean of Graduate Studies, Wang Tianbing, deputy dean of Graduate Studies, and 150 other delegates attended the meeting.

Gao Song emphasized the importance of attracting more graduate students of high quality to Peking University, which is the primary task in postgraduate education. He demanded dedication, elaborate organizations, and close cooperation of the administrators of Academic Affairs in this enrolment initiative. Gao also noted that the moral qualities of candidates, the refinement of standards of selection, and the supervision of the examination process must be taken into consideration. Academic Affairs also needs to standardize the examination procedures.

Jin Dingbing, vice minister of Office of Educational Administration, gave an overview of the general situation of exam-exempted postgraduate recommendations, highlighting the moral qualities of the students, which would serve as an important standard. In addition to information transparency, Jing urged faculty members to ensure justice in recommendations. Jia Aiying, Director of the Admission Office of Graduate School, briefly introduced the overall arrangement of PKU postgraduate enrolment in 2018 as well as a timeline of the process.

At the end of the meeting, Wang Tianbing, who presided over the meeting, pointed out that the graduate enrolment is an integral work, which relies on the efforts of all departments. He ended the meeting by appealing to the faculty to acquire a responsible and rigorous style of work in graduate enrolment.
