Wu Fei joins the Reading Marathon
Mar 22, 2018
Peking University, March. 15, 2018: On March 28, 2018, the fourth reading salon of “Reading Marathon·Year of Reading Program for 120-Year Anniversary” was held at Room 204, Student Center. Professor Wu Fei from Department of Philosophy was the “reading mentor” this week and led students to read Hamlet.

Professor Wu’s sharing began with details in the story and focused on the ghost in Hamlet. He pointed out that the book in essence told a story of a prince's vengeance, which was actually a motif in both western and eastern mysteries just like the story of Wuji Kingdom in the Chinese classic Journey to the West. Wu presented three different views on the implication of the ghost in Hamlet – the soul of old King Hamlet, a demon from the hell, and Prince Hamlet’s illusion. Regardless of what the implication is, there’s no doubt that the ghost is an important figure in the story which relates to many plots, including the prince’s pretend madness and hesitation prior to revenge. Following Wu’s sharing is a Q&A session where students raised question about the book and discuss with the professor.
