Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries launched at PKU

Peking University, October 7, 2019: On the morning of September 27, the book launch of the Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries (1st series) and High-end Forum on “Poetry Translation and Mutual Learning between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations” was held at the New Building of PKU School of Foreign Languages. Representatives from embassies of the Belt and Road countries and PKU Council Chair Qiu Shuiping attended the event and delivered keynote speeches. Participants also included experts and scholars from different universities and research institutes.

In his address, Qiu Shuiping expressed his gratitude to people from all walks of life who had contributed to the edition, translation, publication, and launch of the series, which has great significance in filling in the gaps in the poetry translation and investigation of the Belt and Road countries.
 
Abdul Aziz How Abdullah, Educational Counsellor of the Malaysian Embassy in China, also made an address, saying that this series not only had great academic importance but also explained the value of cultural exchange and cooperation between countries.

The Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries, a project set up in honor of the 120th anniversary of Peking University, selects and translates the masterpieces among poems of the Belt and Road countries. The whole selection, including over 50 volumes of poems, will come off the press in the first half of next year. The first series, published in August, contains 22 volumes and poems from 17 countries.

After the book launch, the High-end Forum on “Poetry Translation and Mutual Learning between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations” was held. Translators of the series and scholars in foreign literature made a deep discussion and exchanged their opinions around related topics.
