Peking University takes measures to facilitate the dining of students returning to campus
Jun 08, 2020
Peking University, June 8, 2020: To facilitate the dining of newly back-to-school graduating students, the Center of Refectories & Restaurants of Peking University would open all the dining halls in batches, and maximize the seats for dining. Besides, PKU dining halls innovated to provide take-away combo meals and accept online orders which would be picked up offline.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, PKU has opened 7
dining halls, 5 for Yanyuan campus with 404 tables. To ensure that each table is only occupied by a diner and keep a triple turnover rate, the 5 dining halls in Yanyuan campus could only accommodate 1,212 people in each meal time. Even if all the dining halls are opened, they can only accommodate 2,964 people. Thus before the graduating batch returns, PKU, apart from opening all the dining halls in two batches, has set partitions in each table, which allows two ppeople to eat at a table, and hence those dining halls can accommodate 5,928 people in each meal time with a triple turnover rate.

Moreover, to avoid people crowding the
dining halls, PKU would arrange three more dining halls to provide take-away meals, and may buy two mobile vehicles for selling combo meals in crowded places. Yiyuan Dining Hall would regularly update its options available which students can order online and pick up offline. If necessary, the Center of Refectories & Restaurants will cooperate with the Accommodation Service Center to deliver group-reserved food.
