PKU Medicine individuals and groups recognized for contributions to COVID-19 response

Peking University, September 22, 2020: The Commendation Conference for National Response to COVID-19 was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of September 8. President Xi Jinping presented the awards and delivered a speech.
 

Fifteen individuals at PKU Medicine were recognized as outstanding figures in the response (including one as outstanding member of the Communist Party of China), and three groups were commended.
 

With their consummate skills, altruistic devotion, and heroic sacrifice, a rising generation added yet another splendid page in the history of PKU Medicine, a testimony to the values that the institution has relentlessly championed.
 

The fourth mission (with 334 members) of PKU Medicine to Hubei

Since the beginning of the outbreak at the turn of 2020, more than 4000 health workers at PKU Medicine have signed up for missions to the epicenter and saved 339 critical patients.
 

Apart from caring for the sick on the frontline, PKU Medicine also battled COVID-19 through its expertise in disease prevention and control, and disseminated to the public evidence-based authoritative information.

Outstanding Group in the National Response to COVID-19
Peking University First Hospital Missions to Hubei

Fully mobilized, Peking University First Hospital acted upon orders and sent a mission of 136 people to the epicenter. On their arrival at the target hospital, this professional team launched into meticulous and efficient operation. Through custom-tailored protocols and a multi-platform, multi-dimension, and multi-disciplinary model, it committed itself to precision care with sound evidence. In the 72 days on the frontline, it saved 100 COVID-19 patients, achieving high success rate in treatment of critical patients and zero infection among its members.

Peking University People’s Hospital Missions to Hubei

Peking University People’s Hospital has dispatched three missions totaling 134 people, with expertise in respiratory medicine, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, infection control and nursing. They took over the ICU at the Sino-French New City Branch of Tongji Hospital, and provided patients with evidence-based precision treatment through tiered and targeted protocols. Thanks to the quality care from loving, patient, meticulous and responsible team members, the ward was eventually emptied, with a cure rate of 96%.

Peking University Third Hospital Missions to Hubei


On January 26, February 1 and February 7, Peking University Third Hospital has dispatched 137 health workers in three missions, with a special focus on treating severe and critical patients. Leaving not a single patient behind, they strived to maximize cure and minimize mortality. Proceeding from the national protocol, they consolidated their own experience into standardized case models and working processes, and shared them through multiple events, making substantial contribution to the understanding of severe and critical COVID-19 cases.
