Professor Zhu Song-Chun appointed dean of PKU Institute for Artificial Intelligence

Peking University, September 28, 2020: Zhu Song-Chun, chair professor of Peking University and the newly appointed dean of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI), attended a working conference on September 24. Present at the meeting were Gong Qihuang, executive vice president of Peking University, Huang Ru, vice president of Peking University, and others from relevant departments.

Huang extended her greetings to Professor Zhu and gave a brief introduction to the achievements made by IAI over the past year as well as its ongoing development goals for the future. Professor Zhu is a world-class researcher in artificial intelligence. Huang is confident that Professor Zhu’s addition will improve PKU’s education and disciplinary development and advance win-win cooperation with Beijing and sister universities.

Professor Zhu expressed his sincere gratitude to Peking University. Over the past several decades, Professor Zhu has had close exchanges and cooperation with faculty members from Peking University and other universities. Professor Zhu said PKU has set a solid foundation in the field of artificial intelligence which will pave the way for major developments in the future. Professor Zhu and his colleagues in IAI will be committed to carrying out research in key areas and major scientific challenges, cultivating more innovative talents, and striving to make groundbreaking, original outcomes in interdisciplinary research. Professor Zhu also stressed that he would act as a bridge to link PKU with other universities and pool resources to support the development of artificial intelligence.


Gong Qihuang

Gong expressed his warm welcome to Professor Zhu’s addition to Peking University, saying that Professor Zhu’s participation will play a significant role in developing the discipline of artificial intelligence and even new engineering disciplines. Gong said Peking University will provide comprehensive support to the development of IAI and he hopes Professor Zhu can bring closer ties between PKU and other universities in the field of artificial intelligence.
