PKU pharmacologists join world-respected journal editors
Feb 22, 2014

Peking University, Jan. 30, 2014: Two classic journals updated the member lists of their editorial boards, part of which come from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), Peking University (PKU).

Zhang Lihe, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was invited among the three associate editors of European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (Eur J Med Chem) from the beginning of 2014.

Prof. Zhang Lihe

Professor Zhang of Organic Medicinal Chemistry can claim a 60-year “citizenship” on the campus of PKU Health Science Center. Beginning as a 17-year-old freshman, he went there for the first time in 1954, then became an assistant, and completed his graduate career from 1964 to 1967. He witnessed the foundation of SPS and acted as dean across the 1990s. In 1995, he was selected into CAS, and then awarded He-Liang-He-Li Prize in 1999.

Zhang focuses mainly on chemistry of nucleosides and nucleotides, as well as anticancer and antiviral drugs.

Eur J Med Chem began its initial issue in 1966. As an international authoritative journal in the pharmacology research, it reports all fields of current medicinal chemistry. Academician Zhang has been the first Chinese scientist to receive the honor. Taking charge of the associate editor is not only a reflection on his achievements in medical chemistry study over the past decades, but also an embodiment of Chinese development in the area as well.

Meanwhile, SPS’s incumbent Vice Dean Zhou Demin, started to hold a post in another renowned periodical, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (J Med Chem), as editorial advisory.

J Med Chem is attached to the American Chemistry Society. It has been the first time for a PKU professor to join its editorial board ever since.
