PKU Online Course on MOOCs platform open for test use

Peking University, March 12, 2014: PKU Online Course on the Coursera platform which offers massive open online courses (MOOCs) was put into trail operation on Mar. 10. Teachers and students in the main campus can now access to 16 sample courses on the platform.

Gao Song, Academic Dean of PKU, released in an open letter to the entire school that PKU Online Course platform, an exclusive online platform for PKU teachers and students, was under pilot run. Thanks to Coursera, an educational technology company offering MOOCs, this online platform aiming to improve teaching levels of the school was set up.

With the help of the techniques of Coursera, PKU Online Course platform integrated the school unified identity authentication system, enabling teachers and students in the main campus logging in with their campus network accounts.

In the joint efforts of teachers, course building teams and faulty of the Computer center, a great deal of work has been completed in the setting up of PKU Online Course platform, including structural design, individualization, system test and course construction. Currently, 16 sample courses are available online.

The platform has been put into trail operation since March 10. For those who are interested in the project, please refer to the following information for details.

Browser: Chrome, Firefox and Safari are recommended whereas IE is not.

Users targeted: teachers and students in the main campus

Set-up procedure: For anyone with PKU email address, please log in the INTERNET SERVICE (http://its.pku.edu.cn) and follow the instruction on http://its.pku.edu.cn/cysz/mail.jsp to set up the "main email address".

Charge: Free. Please contact Computer Center if you cannot visit the website with "free address service".
