Peking University, January 17, 2024: The 2024 Spring Festival gathering of Peking University (PKU) was held on the morning of Jan. 12, 2024, at the Yingjie Exchange Center, where School leaders, guests, and teacher and student representatives gathered to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year.

Hao Ping speaks at the gathering

Speaking at the celebratory gathering, Hao Ping, council chair of Peking University, extended his holiday greetings to faculty members, students, and friends of the University from all walks of life.

In his speech, Hao summarized the achievements of the University in 2023 and expressed his high respect and heartfelt thanks to PKUers who contributed their time and efforts in the past year. He also pointed out that in 2024 PKU will continue focusing on basic and interdisciplinary disciplines, carry on the University's traditions, and keep fostering innovation.

Gong Qihuang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and president of Peking University, reviewed the fruitful undertakings of the University in the past year and called on PKUers to make greater contributions to building a strong nation in areas including education and science and technology in the year 2024.

Duan Huiling, an academician of the CAS and dean of the College of Engineering of Peking University, underlined that 2023 was a year of rapid development for the School of Engineering, adding that the school will be devoted to promoting China's science and technology in the future.

Chen Xi speaks at the gathering

Chen Xi, a doctoral student from the Fourth Medical College of Peking University who spoke as a student representative, recounted the nearly 100 surgeries he had participated in over the past year and shared his understanding of facing up to the challenges in the path of achieving the glorious mission as a doctor.

During the event, both teachers and students delivered vibrant and festive performances. The highlights included a lion dance presented by pupils from the PKU Affiliated Kindergarten, a captivating performance by the student folk orchestra, and the enchanting melodies of the choir made up of students and faculty members. 

The culmination of the gathering featured harmonious singing, as participants extended heartfelt wishes for good health and happiness to the entire PKU community.
