The academic communication on Elite-student Selecting Plan held at Peking University

Peking University, Oct. 18, 2015: The academic communication on Elite-student Selecting Plan of basic subjects was inaugurated from October 10th to 11th at Jinguang Life Science Building in Peking University. More than 100 scholars and specialists from 19 universities attended the two-day seminar.
Gao Song, vice president of Peking University, introduced the basic situations of this plan, and he hoped that it would provide a free communication platform for students’ knowledge pursuit.
Wu Aihua, director of the Department of Science and Technology of Peking University, said that basic subjects laid a solid foundation for national innovation and technology improvement. He also said that elite was the keynote of basic-subject study. In his speech, he encouraged students to help realize Chinese Dream.
Later than that, the website of elite-student selecting plan of basic subjects was set up by Gao Song, Wu Aihua, Yan Chunhua and Dong Zhiyong.

In the end, Yan Chunhua made a speech on “the Ideal Education” and “the Ideal of Education”. He gave many suggestions in aspects of “life”, “study”, “research”, and “morality” according to his own experiences.
The Elite-student Selecting plan of Basic Subjects started from 2009, beginning with math, physics, chemistry, life science, computer science and environmental science. Up until now, 6500 excellent students have been supported by this plan. Among these students, 96.6% of the first 500 graduates pursued further study in universities worldwide; 86% went on advanced learning in basic subjects or intersect subjects, and 20% went to study in world Top 10 Schools (by professional ranking).
