Wu Bihu Elected Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism

Peking University, Oct. 20, 2015: Recently announced by the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, Professor Wu Bihu, together with other five excellent tourism researchers, was named as Fellow of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. Wu is the professor of School of Environment and Urban Studies(SUPD) and the director of Center for Recreation and Tourism Research (CRTR) in Peking University.
 
Founded in Santander, Spain in 1988, the International Academy for the Study of Tourism is a universally acknowledged international academic association on tourism studies, with the aim of furthering the scholarly research and professional investigation of tourism, encouraging the application of findings, and advancing the international diffusion and exchange of tourism knowledge. The International Academy for the Study of Tourism elects individuals who have made preeminent contributions to tourism studies. According to academy rules, the numbers of the incumbent fellows are controlled within 75 in principle.

In May, 2015, Professor Wu was elected as a fellow by secret ballot at the Biennial Conference of the International Academy held in Rhode Island. At the conference, he delivered a speech titled “Tourism City Studies: Spatial Structure and Heritage Rejuvenation for Tourism Development”. Devoted in the field of spatial structure and heritage rejuvenation for about twenty years, he has published his achievements in many SSCI international journals and has been invited to make speeches in international academic conferences many times. He is widely credited with ReBAM theory and the theory of the Protection and Rejuvenation of Urban Historic Quarters, and their application in urban design, which have aroused international academic concern.
 
Wu has published over 10 articles in the international top academic issues on tourism; his 3 Chinese articles respectively rank the first, the third and the fourth in the measurement of the influence of academic articles over 30 years in China; his book Principles of Regional Tourism Planning is the eighth most-cited Chinese academic work in economics papers, according to A Report of the Academic Impact of Chinese Books in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
