2015 International Cultural Festival--1st Press Conference of International Alumni Oral Histories

Peking University, Oct. 27, 2015: On October 25, Peking University held the first press conference of International Alumni Oral Histories in the PKU Hall. Three books concerning the oral histories of international alumni are released.

Since 1949, Peking University has cultivated a large number of foreign students with special Chinese philosophy and international perspective. Many alumni have made outstanding achievements and taken responsibility for international communication and development. In 2014, Peking University launched the “International Alumni Oral Histories” publishing project to record their stories in Peking University and China.


The three books are Bridge between China and Romanian: from Former Romanian Ambassador Luo Ming and Sinologist Sa AnNa; Blackfoot’s Chinese Road: from French Chief Inspector of Chinese Schools Bellassen; and Forty years in China: from Jaimie the CNN Former Chief Correspondent in Beijing Station.

Romulus Budura (Luo Ming) and Anna Budura (Sa AnNa) are among the first group of overseas students since the founding of the PRC. They majored in Chinese Language and Literature. Two years later they were admitted to Peking University department of Chinese and History. After graduation, Romulus went into international relationships for a long time. Anna focused on her research on Chinese history and became a famous scholar in Romania. Bellassen came to Peking University in 1974 and majored in philosophy. After that he was dedicated to his teaching and research. In 2006, he was appointed to be the Chief Inspector for Chinese Schools in France. Jaime studied history in Peking University since 1977 and had worked for CNN and Times. He is the journalist who spent the longest time in China since 1949.


In 2018, Peking University will celebrate the 120th anniversary. In order to demonstrate a better social image and promote the development, Peking University launches a series of projects. The “International Alumni Oral Histories” is one important part, which marks the beginning of the 120th anniversary publishing plan.
