Forum on “One Belt One Road” and Chinese Higher Education held

Peking University Nov 4, 2016: From October 15 to October 16, a two-day forum on "One Belt One Road" and Chinese Higher Education was held in the city of Luoyang. The forum, co-hosted by Center for International Higher Education of PKU and Luoyang Normal University, invited over 60 leaders and scholars from Peking University, Luoyang Normal University, Beijing Normal University, The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), Zhengzhou University (ZZU), Henan University, Beijing Scientific Research Center, China Association of Higher Education and so on.


Professor Liang Liuke, dean of Luoyang Normal University hosted the forum. First of all, researcher Ye Zhihong, deputy secretary of China Association of Higher Education, expressed her sincere congratulations on the forum. She emphasized that“One Belt One Road,” as a long-term, high-level, all-round strategy, provided a great opportunity for higher education. Professor Ma Wanhua, director of Center for International Higher Education of PKU elaborated on the great strategy of “One Belt One Road” and then discussed the opportunities it would create for internationalization and overall development of higher education.

During the forum, participants explored the prospect of Chinese Higher Education under the framework of “One Belt One Road.” Chairman of Luoyang Normal University council Shi Mingde and Dean Liang Liuke, along with Liu Zhijun, vice president of Henan Uniersity, Song Zhenghui, president of Xinyang Normal University discussed respectively the problems and challenges their own university was facing while proceeding towards internationalization.

Afterwards, scholars such as Professor Hong Chengwen, executive vice director of Center for Higher Education of Beijing Normal University, Zhang Baoming, vice president of Henan University and Zhou Qian, ZZU dean of Department of Education discussed from different perspectives about a university’s further development and its own responsibilities when following the strategy of “One Belt One Road.”
