PKU Art Undergrad Sparkled in 2009 Beijing International Students TV/Film Festival

Peking University, Beijing, May 29th, 2009: Ma Ruiqing, a senior student majoring in film and television directing in the School of Arts of Peking University, won most nominations for individual prizes in the 7th Beijing International Students TV/Film Festival, which was recently held at the Communication University of China on the evening of May 22nd as part of the series of 2009 Beijing Students’ Culture and Creativity International Exchange Activities. Through the one-week show time, his short film "The Killer" received nominations of the "Best Creativity", "Best Experimental Short Film", "Best Director" and "Best Editing", and "Five Songs of Military Training in 2007" received the nomination of "Best Documentary."

 

The 7th Beijing International Students TV/Film Festival received a total of 200 works of students from 22 colleges and universities from home and abroad. John Ellis, professor of the Royal Holloway College in the University of London, Mark Leff, professor of Ohio University in the United States, Sylvie Levey, French documentary director, Yashma, Japanese documentary producer, Zhang Shuhua, Deputy Director of the News Division of Taiwan ETTV were invited by the organizing committee as foreign judges; Chen Xunguang, professor of the School of Arts in PKU, Chen Xiaoyun, professor of Beijing Film Academy, He Suliu, professor of Communication University of China were invited as domestic judges.

 

Twelve individual awards, including "Best Music Video" "Best TV News Report" "Best TV Arts" "Best Documentary" "Best Director" "Best Cinematography" "Best Experimental Short Film" "Best Editing" "Best Creativity" were presented in the ceremony. Ma Ruiqing won the "Best Creativity" "Best Experimental Short Film" and "Best Editing" Awards with his short film "The Killer."

 

Professor Mark Leff, presenting the "Best Experimental Short Film" Award praised the sophisticated design and skilled techniques showed in "The Killer" and said that it was hard to believe that such a good film was only a class exercise of a film and TV technology course.

 

Chen Dong, vice minister of Publicity Department of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, Su Zhiwu, President of the Communication University of China, Ding Shulin, deputy director of Beijing International Education Exchange Center, Zhong Danian, Controller of Hong Kong Phoenix Satellite Information TV Station, attended the ceremony as guests presenting awards. A number of reporters from Xinhua News Agency, the Central People's Broadcasting Station, Beijing TV, the newspaper "Chinese Film," the educational channel of Sina and other media were invited to participate in the ceremony.

 

Beijing International Students TV/Film Festival was started in 2003, and has become a national, even international, TV and film competition of college and university students with the support of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and Beijing International Education Exchange Center.
