Wang Zinan’s Doctoral Thesis Published on Springer

Peking University, Apr. 7, 2017: Recently, the doctoral thesis “Dual-polarization two-port fiber-optic gyroscope” written by Wang Zinan, Ph.D. student of Class of 2015 from State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and NetworksSchool of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Peking University, was selected into the Springer Theses Series and published Online (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-10-2836-6).

 
This is the first English monograph written and published by domestic scholar in the field of interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope (IFOG). Aimed to tackle with the performance limitation and high cost of fiber-optic gyroscope, the dissertation re-examines the conventionalmodel “minimal scheme”, and discovers polarization error compensation phenomenon in the dual-polarization. A new prototype of dual-polarization two-port fiber-optical gyroscope is developed, which breaks the limitation from the classical model, avoids the complexity of two couplers and brings new possibility for IFOGs to reach higher sensitivity and lower cost. The book contains a large quantity of experimental analysis and rigorous mathematical deduction, which serves as great references for peers from domestic and abroad to conduct related research and experiment. The research work will definitely promote the IFOG development to broader application, extending from military use to civil use.

Wang Zinan was enrolled in Department of Microelectronics, School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University in 2006. He has been participating in research projects under the guidance of professor Li Zhengbin since he was an undergraduate. In 2010, he was recommended to pursue his Ph.D. degree directly after finishing his Bachelor degree, with his research focusing on optical fiber sensing. During his study at Peking University, he had published more than 20 SCI and EI indexed publications and applied for 17 patents for invention, 14 of which were licensed. He received many honors, including “Ten Prominent Youth on Academy”, “Excellent Doctoral Dissertations in Peking University”, “President's Ph.D. Scholarship” etc.
