2008 Top Ten News of Peking University

Peking University, Beijing, Jan. 8th, 2009: On December 25, Peking University News Center launched the voting for “2008 Top Ten News of Peking University” with the aim of summarizing the whole year’s work and recalling significant events happened in PKU in 2008 as an effort to unite common strength of students and teachers and promote further development of the university.

                                                                                                                        

Peking University News Center selected 25 pieces of news as possible options and ten of them with the most votes were selected. During the voting period from 25th December to 30th, a total of 1866 votes were collected. The following is the list of events that won highest attention (in chronological order):

 

1.         Five academic achievements of Peking University wins National Science and Technology Award

 

2. Professor Lin Yifu of Peking University appointed the executive vice president and chief economist of the World Bank

 

3. The General Secretary Hu Jintao visits Peking University and delivers important speech on the eve of 110th anniversary of Peking University

 

4. Peking University commemorates140th birth anniversary of Mr. Cai Yuanpei

 

5. Great earthquake hit Wen Chuan in Sichuan Province, PKU students and faculty assisted in reconstruction of quake-struck areas in various forms

 

6. Russia President Medvedev and other foreign heads of state visit Peking University

 

7. 15 PKU courses prized State-level Model Courses in 2008

 

8. Peking University awarded with several honors for contribution to Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, Premier Wen Jiabao wrote an inscription for Olympic volunteers of Peking University

 

9. Shenzhen Graduate Faculty and HSBC Business School of Peking University founded

 

10. Academician Zhou Qifeng succeeds Academician Xu Zhihong as President of Peking University
