May 04, 2017
Peking University, Mar 4, 2017: On April 29, 2017, Peking University released the first short film of its 120th anniversary film series—Our Stories at Peking University. The film, brought about by the Preparatory Committee for PKU 120th Anniversary, was first released by the official micro-blogs of PKU and PKU 120th anniversary at the same time. Now it is also available on various video websites.

The film focuses on PKU Adult School for Staff Workers —a non-profit program run by PKU and supported by many volunteer scholars and students. It presents PKU as a university not only for its students, but also for everyone who is eager to learn. In this program, staff workers can attend a variety of classes ranging from Chinese traditional culture to modern science. Many staff workers have learnt a lot and have found a sense of belonging in this college through this program.

To make the classes more interesting and more accessible for staff workers, “School of education assembled a group of teachers and put in many efforts to discuss how to organize each lecture.” Said Professor Shang Junjie in the film.

The film also dated the tradition of PKU Adult School back to the first 20 years of the last century, highlighting PKU’s tradition of humanistic concern. Over the past decade, 1,082 staff workers have attended this program and 713 volunteers have participated in it. “I think it is very meaningful, therefore I will continue to commit myself to this program as a volunteer.” Said PKU student Shang Junying.
