PKU Profs Win Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Award and Chen Shengshen Prize of Mathematics
Apr 27, 2009

Peking University, Beijing, April 26th, 2009: On the morning of April 21st, Chinese Mathematical Society held 2009 academic meeting and gave prizes on the opening ceremony for the winners of "Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Award", "Chen Shengshen Prize of Mathematics" and "Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Prize".

The Ninth "Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Award" winners are professors of PKU Mathematical Sciences: Zhang Gongqing from Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), The Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and Li Banghe from Institute of Mathematics and System Science of CAS.

PKU Prof. Zhang Gongqing,  Academician of CAS and TWAS

Zhang Gongqing devotes himself to long-term basic theory and applied research: he has made great contribution to the non-linear analysis and Morse theory in infinite dimensional systems; he is one of the frontiers in the field of geometric analysis of research. He has got appraisals all over the world for his works in multiple solutions in minimal surface of the Plateau problem, in two-dimensional harmonic map heat flow of the overall phenomenon of existence and blasting, as well as the manifold of symplectic sub manifold intersecting Lagrangian estimated geometric analysis of the problem; He has created a way to solve the free boundary problem by changing it into a discrete non-linear partial differential equation, and developed the application of set-valued mapping Fixed Point Theory and non differentiable functional of the critical point theory. He won the National Science and Technology Award, a second-class National Natural Science Award, the first Chen Shengshen Mathematics Award, Third World Academy of Sciences Prize for Mathematics. Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for scientific and technological progress awards, such as scientific research. Academician Zhang Gongqing has long-term work in mathematics and mathematics teaching in the front line of training, he was awarded the University's "Cai Yuanpei Award" and "National teaching award" by the Ministry of Education.

PKU Prof. Zhang Jiping

Professor Zhang Jiping has made a great achievement on a limited group of studies. He has solved the problem well-known Brauer 39, he gives the necessary and sufficient conditions  for the first zero-deficit given p-block; He simplified Puig conjecture into a limited single group, and become the basis for further study; his works in the development of arithmetic theoretical work helps to promote the development of a finite group, and applied to the algebraic number theory and combinatorics and other areas of research; in 2007 Zhang Jiping gave the nature of the new p-nilpotent following criteria through block separation is a great achievement after the criteria of Thompson, while the block separation with related issues have become the new direction of research for the finite group and the mode. From 2000 to 2007 Professor Zhang Jiping is the vice chairman of the China mathematics society. He has won the first prize in China Youth Science and Technology, the Chinese Young Scientist Award, "Seeking Truth" Outstanding Young Persons Award, scientific and technological progress award by Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Award, and the "state-level middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions," "National outstanding scientific and technological workers", "National May 1 Labor Medal" and so on.

Wei Yuan of the Institute of Mathematics and System Science of CAS, Yin Wanke of Wuhan University Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, Ge Hao from the School of Mathematical Sciences, Fudan University, and Jin Chunhua from the Institute of Mathematics of Jilin University won the ninth "Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Prize". Academic year is an important form and highest academic meeting for China mathematic organization to promote academic exchange all over the world and it is held every two years. This annual meeting's theme is to create a harmonious atmosphere, and promote the development of mathematics.
