PKU Students and Faculty Plant “May 4th Commemoration Forest“

Peking University, Beijing, March 30, 2009: The "May 4th Commemoration Forest" voluntary tree planting activity of Peking University and the unveiling ceremony was held in Hot Spring Town of Haidian Village in the afternoon of March 28. Zhou Qifeng, PKU President, Zhang Yan, deputy secretary of Party Committee, Han Liu, secretary of the Communist Youth League, Zhao Tianyang, deputy party secretary of College of Urban and Environmental Sciences and Deputy Secretary-General of China's environmental education base for university students, and leaders of the Hot Springs Town attended the activity. 100 young volunteers from different colleges of PKU participated in the voluntary tree planting activity.

President Zhou Qifeng, Deputy Secretary Zhang Yan, and representatives of the volunteers unveiled the memorial statue for "May 4th Commemoration Forest". Accompanied by the volunteers, President Zhou Qifeng planted the first tree in forest, while youth volunteers were the main force in the process of planting, and had planted 60 maidenhair trees in about 30 minutes.

"The May 4th Commemoration Forest" voluntary tree-planting activities are launched by the Communist Youth League of PKU, Chinese Environmental Education Base for University Students, and PKU Young Volunteers Association to commemorate the 90 anniversary of "May 4th Movement".
