134 Ancient Books of PKU Library Selected as National Directory of Precious Ancient Books

Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 22, 2009: In the 2nd batch of National Directory of Precious Ancient Books, 134 ancient books from Peking University (PKU) Library are in the list.

 

The selection of ancient books for the 2nd batch of National Directory of Precious Ancient Books began from February, 2009. On June 11, the telephone conference on preservation of national ancient books was held at the hall of State Council. Liu Yandong and other leaders from the Chinese Ministry of Culture, State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and General Administration of Press and Publication attended the conference and gave speeches. Shen Naiwen, Director of the Office of Ancient Books of PKU Library, was also at the conference. The 2nd batch of National Directory of Precious Ancient Books was announced at the conference. There are 4485 ancient books selected into the directory, and 134 of them are now preserved at PKU Library.

 

In the 1st batch of National Directory of Precious Ancient Books, 103 ancient books from PKU Library were selected. Up till now, a total of 237 ancient books of PKU have been in the list of the National Directory of Precious Ancient Books.

 

From June 13 to July 3, the library selected 11 ancient books from the 2nd batch of National Directory of Precious Ancient Books to attend the Special Exhibition of National Rare Books in China organized by the National Library of China.
