During the selection of 2010 HLHL prizes, because of “a series of innovative achievements in research of exploration and physical properties of new nano materials, kinetics in thin-film and nano structure growth, and study of water networks on surfaces; producing nitrogen-induced carbon nanobells, tubular graphite cones, and single-walled boron carbonitride nanotubes using CVD techniques and realizing the study of in-situ properties and structures of a single nanotube; proposing a universal model of electron counting of metal-induced re-construction on semiconductor surface and discovering and confirming a few new rules of movement of atoms on surface; having done work of great influence on such basic problems as structure of the ice surface, pre-melting mechanism and discovery of two-dimensional mosaic of the ice,” Prof. Wang Enge was awarded the prize for scientific and technological progress (Award for Physics).

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established on Mar. 30, 1994 in Hong Kong with funds donated by the S H Ho Foundation Limited, Dr. Leung Kau-Kui, Dr. Ho Tim, and Dr. Lee Quo-Wei’s Wei Lun Foundation Limited. The Foundation shall grant awards and prizes to individuals who are devoted to the achievements, progress and innovations of China’s science and technology. The Foundation was by far the largest and most influential non-governmental science and technology award foundation in China. Its annual awards are initially evaluated by a professional panel and then given a final assessment by the committee, which eventually produces the final winning candidate by secret ballot.

There are totally 40 scientists of PKU who have been awarded by Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation up to date, which is the largest number among universities all over China. Prof. Wang Enge is the only winner of the award in PKU this year.
