Peking University, March 15, 2018: A conference for middle management staff and members of the administrative leading group of Peking University was hosted at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.

Lin Jianhua, president of Peking University, delivered a speech themed “Achievement, Reflection, and the Future”. He commented that Peking University had made remarkable progress in her efforts to be a world-class university in personnel-system reform, pedagogical reform, the construction of a “High-quality Campus” and the general framework of the national "Double First-rate" strategic plan in particular.
Peking University has gained valuable experience over the past 20 years, however, constant reflection on reform and development is still critical. “The future has arrived!” Lin also remarked, “We gain pride and confidence as we look back to our traditions; while we gain resolution and the determination to reform as we look to the challenges of the future.” Lin then summarized the major work of this year, from the 120th anniversary to, educational reform, as well as the support for young scholars and the performance assessment of staff.
Peking University Council Chairman Hao Ping made requests for future developments to be fulfilled in several phases. First, to maintain its leading academic edge, Peking University must maintain an intense sense of crisis. Second, in order to [2] keep moving forward, PKU should continue to bear in mind the distinction between “striving to be a world-class university” and “being content as a mediocre school”. Third, we must optimize the distribution of resources and concentrate on the intensive core development. Fourth, all work must be carried out based on the student-oriented education. Fifth, the reform of Peking University must be an integral part of national strategies with a comprehensive outlook. Sixth, the blueprints made in the conference must be duly implemented.
