Mar 30, 2018

Peking University, March 17, 2018: Invited by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Professor Huang Yi from PKU College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE) participated in the conference of High-Level Intergovernmental and Stakeholder Advisory Group (HLG) for Global Environment Outlook 6 (GEO-6), as well as the Fourth and final Global Authors Meeting. The meeting reviewed the drafts of the GEO-6 report and complemented a mid-term evaluation of the program’s progress.

GEO is a key UNEP assessment reviewing the state of the global environment, and is a long-term project conducted on a global scale with each stage of work lasting for five years.

Ever since the GEO was initiated in 1997 at the national key laboratory of CESE, PKU has participated in this international program under the leadership of Professor Tang Xiaoyan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Now, Professor Huang Yi has participated in the drafting of a GEO-6 report as a major author. On recommendation of China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection, he was also appointed by UNEP as a member of HLG for GEO-6. Professor Huang was elected as a co-chairman of this high-level panel among over 30 other members, including world-famous environmental scientists and government officials. He is also the only scientist on this panel from China. [3] The advisory group works to provide directional guidance of the evaluation process, policy advice for decision-makers, and substantial assistance for relevant networking activities.
