PKU alumna Xu Siyao receives IAU PhD Prize 2017

Peking University, May 12, 2018: On May 7, 2018, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) announced the nine winners of the IAU PhD Prize 2017. Xu Siyao, Ph.D. graduate from Peking University in 2017 in Astronomy, became the third PKU Ph.D. graduate in Astronomy who has won the prize since it was set up last year. Xu was awarded for her contribution to the research on Magnetohydrodynamic turbulence and its astrophysical application. Besides, she was also the winner of the Hubble Fellow 2017 by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Xu now works at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a postdoctoral researcher.

The IAU PhD Prize recognizes the outstanding scientific achievement in astronomy by Ph.D. students around the world. Each recipient receives airfare, registration fee and accommodation to attend the next IAU General Assembly, to be held between 20 and 31 August 2018 in Vienna, Austria, where the Prize Certificates will be awarded. The winners will also have the opportunity to present their research work in one of the sessions of the General Assembly.
