PKU launches Undergraduate Program for International Organizations and International Public Policies

Peking University, Sept. 20, 2018: On 15th September, 2018, Peking University launched the undergraduate Program for International Organizations and International Public Policies at the 2018 initiating ceremony of School of International Studies (SIS). Aimed to cultivate first-class talents in managing global affairs and international organizations, the program has selected over twenty undergraduate freshmen. Present at the ceremony were Professor Jia Qingguo, dean of SIS, Tang Shiqi, deputy dean of SIS and other prominent officials.

School officials have great hope in the program. PKU president Lin Jianhua emphases that, as PKU pioneers in combining liberal education and professional training, this undergraduate program stands out in that it associates China’s growth in advanced interdisciplinary studies with the academic and teaching demands. Program principal Zhang Haibin adds that, in order to provide a strong guarantee for programs like this, PKU has established the first Department of International Organizations and Public Policies in China. Besides, the program enrolls both Chinese and international students, which exhibits PKU’s open and inclusive spirits as well as its awareness of a community of shared future for mankind.

Students enrolled in this program also have their own dreams. Chen Yihui, from the Department of German at the School of Foreign Languages, says she has been interested in the program and hopes to grow into a qualified talent in international organizations. A Russian student from SIS also expresses that, she firmly believes in the capacity of international organizations to change the world, and expects to learn more about them.
