Professor Francis Snyder receives 2018 Chinese Government Friendship Award

Peking University, October 8, 2018: On September 29, the 2018 Chinese Government Friendship Award was presented at the Great Hall of the People. Professor Francis Snyder, a British expert of Peking University School of Transnational Law, attended the ceremony as one of the recipients of the award. Zhang Jianguo, Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, announced the nominations and Liu He, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese vice premier, presented the award to the recipients before he delivered a speech. On September 30, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang received the awardees along with their relatives and cordially invited them to attend the ceremony to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese Government Friendship Award is the highest award set up by the Chinese government in recognition of foreign experts’ outstanding contributions to China’s reform and opening up. This year, 50 foreign experts from 21 countries received this award. Professor Snyder expressed his gratitude as one of the awardees.
Professor Snyder is an internationally renowned expert on food safety law, WTO law, and European Union law. He served as Dean of the Law Department of the European University Institute and Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics, has been Guest Professor at Peking University Law School and Tsinghua Law School, and is now is C.V. Starr Professor of Law and Director of STL’s Center for Research on Transnational Law.
For more than two decades, Professor Snyder has been dedicated to China’s reform and modernization. He has made important academic contributions in the fields of China-EU relations, WTO law, and China’s food safety law; many of his suggestions are included in the Food Safety Law passed in 2015. He was also awarded the honour of Officier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques and is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in the World.
