PKU Journalism Research Association holds its Centennial Seminar

Peking University, Oct. 16, 2018: On October 14, the academic seminar on journalistic education in 20th century China & centennial of the establishment of Peking University Journalism Research Association was held in Sunshine Hall, Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center in Peking University. Professor Lu Shaoyang, deputy of School of Journalism and Communication, and PKU Party Secretary Chen Gang respectively hosted the opening ceremony and the keynote seminar. The conference invited attendees from political field and the press, including Liu Siyang, vice president of Xinhua News Agency, Lang Heng, former vice editor-in-chief of People’s Daily News Agency, Huang Qiang from the Publicity Department of CPCMany renowned scholars also presented at the Sunshine Hall with their insightful reports.

On the opening ceremony, PKU Vice President Wang Bo reviewed the history of the journalistic education in Peking University during the speech. He stressed the significance of the establishment of Peking University Journalism Research Association one century ago and pointed out that the universities should bravely shoulder the responsibility for cultivating future journalists and scholars.

Then, during the following seminar, Professor Fang Hanqi from Renmin University of China delivered a speech about the historical contribution made by Peking University Journalism Research Association. He also wished that Peking University Journalism Research Association would continue following the instruction of the former PKU President Cai Yuanpei – to dig into the laws, to accumulate experience and to make greater progress in the field of journalism.

Professor Zhao Yuming talked about the contemporary problem of lacking qualified teachers in journalistic education and offered several solutions in his report. After that, Professor Tong Bing from Fudan University, Professor Zheng Baowei from Renmin University of China, Professor Luo Yicheng from Wuhan University, Professor Cheng Manli from Peking University respectively expressed their insight into the current state of journalism from multiple perspectives. The conferees burst into applause for the successful seminar upon conclusion.
