The Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies Holds its Second Youth Forum

Peking University, Oct. 24, 2018: On October 20, the Second Youth Forum of the Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies was held in Jingyuan Courtyard No. 5. Executive Director Chen Baoquan and Vice Director Wang Yizhou co-hosted the conference.

At the opening ceremony, Chen Baoquan warmly welcomed the conferees. He also wished that through this Forum, the young scientists studying abroad could know more about the current state of the academic and industrial circle at home.

During the reporting session, Doctor Ma Weiying, vice president at ByteDance pointed out in the speech that AI should serve as a new tool for improving the common user experience and life quality. Then, Professor Marc Christie from University of Rennes 1 shared with the audience the latest smart tracing filming and switching scene technique by a video presentation, which received many positive responses from the Forum. What’s more, Doctor Zhou Qingnan introduced the dataset “Thingi10K” and the open source geometry library “PyMesh” in his following report, which have played significant roles in graphics studies. Doctor Zhang Shanghang from Carnegie Mellon University developed a statistical method to count  the vehicles in both photos and video clips, thus to a certain extent clearing up the difficulties in collecting current traffic data. After that, Ding Jiaxin from Stony Brook University introduced his study in spatiotemporal data mining and its application in private information protecting projects. Doctor Mou Lili from Adepmind Research Center reported his research on how to enhance the learning ability in natural language processing from the perspective of neurology.

After a full day’s presentations, Professor Wang Yizhou concluded the conference with hearty thanks for every reporter and the audience.
