Silk Road is a general term for a series of long-distance traffic networks connecting the hinterland of China and the Mediterranean world, including the winding landline through the Inner Asian Desert Oasis, the Iranian Plateau, and the Eurasian Steppes, as well as the sea routes through the China Sea, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Ocean. Silk Road research is a comprehensive cross-disciplinary research in the field of humanities and social sciences, with a broad research scope involving history, geography, ethnicity, language, religion, art, etc. However, the core concerns of the research are communication, trade and the spread of culture along the Silk Road. PKU’s Silk Road research has a long history. Many distinguished scholars, such as Huang Wenbi, Xiang Da, Ji Xianlin, Su Bai, Zhang Guangda, Lin Meicun, Rong Xinjiang, and Duan Qing, have consecutively devoted themselves to the Silk Road research since the establishment of Peking University. With their passion and effort, these experts had opened up the field, made great achievements, and formed a unique academic tradition.

Through graphic introduction and physical display, this exhibition systematically shows the brilliant achievements of Peking University’s 100-year Silk Road research. It reviews the pioneering achievements of the academic predecessors and acts as an important enlightenment for students to continually make progress under the new historical conditions.
