Seminar on "The 30th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Social Work " holds

Peking University, November 11, 2018: From November 1st to 2nd, 2018, the seminar "The 30th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of Social Work in China and in Peking University" was held at Peking University. More than 300 social work researchers, educators and practitioners from different countries and regions such as the United States, Britain, and Hong Kong participated in the seminar to review the hard-won achievements of China social work in the past 30 years and discuss the future direction of the social work’s development and the discipline construction. 

On the morning of November 1, at the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Sibin from Department of Sociology, Peking University, introduced and announced the establishment of the “China Social Work Development Fund” of Peking University-The Hong Kong Polytechnic University China Social Work Research Center. After that, Wang Sibin, Angelina Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki, senior consultant of president of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Professor Lena Dominelli from the Academy of Social Sciences, University of Stirling, gave speeches at the seminar. Professor Michael Sherraden of Washington University in St. Louis and Professor Lena Dominelli gave speeches on lifelong asset building and green society work on the second day. At the closing ceremony, Angelina Yuen-Tsang Woon Ki pointed out that the public’s understanding of social work as a profession has changed dramatically and she believes that China social work can continue to take a new step in the next decade.

The reconstruction of social work in Peking University also reflects the historical process of its development in China. The convening of this seminar is of great significance for promoting future development of China's social work.
