Hao Ping attends the Microsoft Research Asia 20th Anniversary Ceremony

Peking University, November 11, 2018: On the afternoon of November 8, Peking University President Hao Ping attended the 20th anniversary celebration of Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing and delivered a speech. Professor Lin Jianhua, former PKU president, Academician Gao Wen, dean of Faculty of Electronics Engineering and Computer Sciences, and other scholars attended the event.

After congratulating Microsoft for its achievements in the past 20 years, Hao Ping reviewed the cooperation between this institute and PKU. When Bill Gates visited China in 1995 and talked with PKU scholars and students, he expressed his desire to establish a research institute in such a strong academic atmosphere. Later, in 1998, Microsoft Research Asia was officially set up. Hao pointed out that amid the technological waves represented by artificial intelligence and big data, the collaboration between research institutions and universities is sure to accelerate the transformation of high-tech to real productivity. Hao looks forward to a solid partnership with Microsoft and its brilliant future. 

Hsiao-Wen Hon, a senior vice president of Microsoft Corporation, thanked Hao for his speech. He also pointed out that over the last 20 years, the extensive and in-depth cooperation between the Microsoft Research Asia and various institutions has greatly helped to promote the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements as well as to facilitating the digital transformation of enterprises.

Microsoft Research Asia focused on its 20-year-history and showcased its latest technological achievements at the event. It also exhibited its latest progress in industrial, academic and research cooperation with Peking University. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Research Asia 20th anniversary ceremony also demonstrated 26 technical prototypes and application examples including artificial intelligence creation, machine cognition intelligence, data intelligence and open platform.
