Opening Ceremony of Institute of New Rural Development and the 1st Rural Vitalization Forum held

Peking University, Nov. 24, 2018: Peking University celebrated the opening of Institute of New Rural Development and held the 1st Rural Vitalization Forum at the Sunshine Hall in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center on Nov. 23, 2018.

The establishment of Institute of New Rural Development is supported by China Center for Agricultural Policy as well as School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences. The institute aims to create a high-end think tank with multidisciplinary talents that will serve the strategy of rural vitalization and speed up the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

Professor Wang Yanglin, vice president of Peking University, delivered a speech. He pointed out that the establishment of Institute of New Rural Development is a major event not only for the discipline of agricultural economics in Peking University, but also for the field of agricultural research in China. According to the report delivered at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China
issues of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers are fundamental to China as they directly concern the stability of the country and the well-being of the people. Therefore, promoting rural vitalization is essential to the realization of the Two Centenary Goals and the Chinese Dream. In response to the call, Peking University established Institute of New Rural Development,  which received a positive response from all sectors of society, especially the experts and scholars in the related fields.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Hao Ping, president of Peking University, presented the letter of appointment to the members of advisory committee of Institute of New Rural Development and inaugurated the institute with guests.
