827 PKU students honored with National Scholarship

Peking University, Nov. 29, 2018: Lately, the winner list of 2017-2018 National Scholarship is released. In total, 208 undergraduate students, 318 graduate students and 301 doctoral students at Peking University won the glory.

National Scholarship is the highest and most formal award for university students. Every year, near 27 million students from 2,000 universities compete for a quota of 50 thousand, with a winning chance of only 0.2%.


Focus on study with perseverance



Tang Longke

Tang Longke, class of 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Mathematical Sciences. Tang was given a nickname “Mishen (math fanatic)”, for his extraordinary passion towards math.


In 2018, Tang behaved excellently in S.-T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contests. Out of the five competitions, he won three gold medals, including P.L. Hsu Medal (in probability and statistics), W. L. Chow Medal (in algebra, number theory and combination) and L. K. Hua Medal (in analysis and differential equation), as well as an individual all-around gold medal. In the same year, Tang came runner-up in “PKU Cup” chess competition, and was selected the “Person of the Year • Academic Elite.” 


Zhang Lantian

Zhang Lantian, class of 2021 undergraduate student from the Department of History.

Born in January 2001, Zhang is the youngest winner this year. She enjoys reading and thinking, and has definite goals and plans. In addition to ranking top in grade last year, Zhang was also devoted to volunteering with a total duration of 24.5 hours. 


Wang Yusu

Wang Yusu, fourth year doctoral student from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature.

Wang actively participates in research on internet literature and popular culture. She has published multiple papers and taken part in the compilation of several academic monographs. Since the establishment of the Peking University Internet Literature Forum in 2015, Wang has been the chief editor of original content of the forum. She successfully fulfilled all sorts of tasks as one of the backbone members.

Lu Yukun

Lu Yukun, Class of 2019 undergraduate student from the School of Physics.

Lu has excellent grades and impressive scientific work. He published a paper as first author in SCI journal on singular points in cavity quantum electrodynamic system, and presented his work at the International Workshop on “Microcavities and Their Applications.” Moreover, Lu did short-term research in Caltech for half a year and made breakthrough on the research of optic gyroscope.


Feng Ying

Feng Ying, second year graduate student from the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering.

Feng actively participated in scientific work. She published one SCI paper as first author in Water Research, one paper in a Chinese core journal, and five SCI papers as co-author in Water Research, Environment Science & Technology, etc. 


Sun Fangmiao

Sun Fangmiao, fifth year doctoral student from the School of Life Sciences.

Sun explores developing a novel genetically-encoded probe for neurotransmitter used in neural circuits. The genetically-encoded dopamine florescence probe, of which she participated in the development, has subsecond fluorescence response, polymer specificity and spatial-temporal resolution. This technique has been successfully applied in in vivo imaging for model organisms. Relevant accomplishments are published in Cell and Nature.


Li Yue

Li Yue, fourth year doctoral student from the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering.

Li published five SCI papers as first author. In 2018, he discussed the causal relation between enhanced vegetation activity in the mid-high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere and local temperature increase in a review published in Science, and systematically evaluated the influence of afforestation towards local water cycle during the past thirty years in an article published in Science Advances.


Mu Limin

Mu Limin, second year doctoral student from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Mu has excellent grades, innovative ideas and fruitful achievements. So far, she has published three SCI papers (total IF = 24.9) as first author and ten SCI papers (total IF = 47.2) as second author or contributor. Mu also gave two poster presentations at academic conferences and received best poster reward.


Participate in social activities, develop in an all-round way



Yu Yan

Yu Yan, class of 2018 undergraduate from Guanghua School of Management.

Yu ranked Number 1 in multiple courses, and got full scores during her exchange at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She also won championship in Deloitte Audit Competition and second place in Huawei Financial Elites Competition. She once went to Regong in Qinghai Province to do a research on the industrialization of Thang-ga, which won her Practice Excellence Award of PKU. Besides, she was a voluntary teacher in Indonesia. Also, she is the President of Association for International Students Communication, and a co-editor of the book The Belt and Road Initiative: A Community of Shared Future for the Youth, which was covered by CCTV.


Huang Zhixian

Huang Zhixian, class of 2020 undergraduate from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering.

Huang was applauded for his down-to-earth and earnest attitude towards study and research. In his extracurricular life, he was devoted to volunteering activities, student association work, and sports. Huang was one of the core members of Chinese Shuttlecock Club and Chinese Rope-skipping Team. He participated in multiple Beijing and national competitions of Shuttlecock and Rope-skipping, with outstanding results.
 

Zhou Hong

Zhou Hong, class of 2020 undergraduate from the School of Journalism and Communication. 

Zhou ranked Number 1 in comprehensive evaluation. Meanwhile, she was active in all sorts of club activities and student affairs. Zhou gave a recitation performance at the May 4 Gala of CCTV on behalf of PKU. She was also among the Top 10 of the 14th PKU “Top 10” Speech Contest.

Xi Zhonghai

Xi Zhonghai, class of 2020 graduate from the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences.

Xi not only devoted himself to student affairs but also ranked Number 1 both academically and comprehensively. He once finished a project paper deputed by China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment. Xi was enthusiastic about helping spread traditional Chinese culture. He performed Kunqu Opera at the 120th anniversary ceremony of PKU, and toured around the country with the show Peony Pavilion (Campus Inheritance Edition).


Zhang Chen

Zhang Chen, second-year graduate from the School of Government.

He actively took part in student affairs including organizing the Newcomers’ Orientation Program and Youth Politics Forum. He also excelled academically with outstanding grades. During his graduate studies, he shouldered the responsibility of Party Secretary of CPC in his department, and was honored an excellent member of CPC at PKU. Zhang was also devoted to academic research, publishing one paper in Beijing Education, a PKU core journal of education.

Liu Haohan

Liu Haohan, class of 2019 graduate from the School of Foreign Languages.

Liu independently translated several books such as A Guide to the Mysteries of World- Famous Paintings (世界の名画 謎解きガイド). His language skills also enabled him to achieve great performance in the “AEON Cup” Japanese Speech Contest. Liu participated as volunteer, translator, or host, in all sorts of activities, such as China Education Expo, CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting, China-Japan University Student Communication Conference, and other international symposiums.


Chen Fangping

Chen Fangping, second year doctoral student from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science.

Chen has 8-year experience in research on electronic engineering and computer algorithms, and 6-year experience in development of hardware and software of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). He has had more than 10 patents, published several papers, stood out in both domestic and international competitions, and been selected into the PKU Excellence Program. Chen’s start-up company has raised tens of millions of investments and received a great many orders. His product system of UAV is helping people live a much more efficient life.


Wang Ben

Wang Ben, starting his doctoral study at Third School of Clinical Medicine in 2011.


Wang was praised for his dedication by patients and colleagues. He also made outstanding achievements in academic research. As first author, he has submitted 10 papers to SCI journals, 7 of which have been accepted or published with a total impact factor of more than 19. He also took part in multiple national academic conferences, got 4 patents, and ranked Number 1 in r comprehensive evaluation.


These National Scholarship winners are all credited for their diligence and perseverance. They set the example for and are the epitomes of PKU students.
