Peking University, Dec 2, 2018: On November 25th, “2018 China’s Press Spokespersons Forum” was held at Yingjie Exchange Center of PKU. The forum was sponsored by the State Council Information Office (SCIO), and organized by National Institute of Strategic Communication of Peking University.

The forum

Xu said that China’s press has made great progress with the development of reform and opening-up. Over the past 40 years, China’s news release insisted on being people-oriented, open and transparent, serving as a bridge linking Party, government and people, and as a window of viewing the world and exhibiting the positive image of China. Xu hoped the press become “a responder to the public, a promoter to the great cause of reform, a storyteller of China, and a guide to spread the mainstream culture.”

Xu Lin’s speech

In the opening speech, Qiu Shuiping pointed out that Peking University is the cradle of Chinese journalism. A century ago, it was President Cai Yuanpei who initiated the research and education of Chinese journalism in PKU. Since the reform and opening-up, the educators of journalism in PKU have been committed to actively cultivating news talents, advocating media responsibility, and promoting social progress. Qiu believed PKU would give full play to its role of think tanks in promoting China’s international communication and the construction of China’s press spokesperson system.
