Peking University, Dec. 19, 2018: On December 18, the inauguration ceremony of CAST-PKU Culture of Science Institute took place in Yingjie Exchange Center, where senior leaders and veteran scholars were present to witness the founding of the Institute.

CAST, also known as China Association for Science and Technology, is one of the largest non-governmental organizations in the science and technology community, serving as a bridge that links professionals in the academia to different institutions and enterprises.

“The partnership with CAST is of great significance to PKU, as it propels the University’s strength in conducting scientific research and cultivating future scientists. CAST-PKU Culture of Science Institute is expected to become an academic powerhouse that creates an atmosphere where people from all walks of life are willing to embrace and apply science in daily lives,” said Qiu Shuiping, chairman of PKU Council.

Qiu also added that PKU boasts advanced facilities and top-notch researchers, making it capable of addressing different challenges in the scientific world. PKU will be committed to offering support for the development of science in China.

Honorary chairman of CAST Han Qide attended the ceremony and was appointed head of the CAST-PKU Culture of Science Institute. In his address, Han expressed his gratitude to PKU for the notable achievement that the University has made over years. He also envisaged that the Institute will be a leading platform that draws scholars together to disseminate culture of science.

As a top higher institution, PKU has brought up a batch of renowned scientists, such as Wang Xuan and Tu Youyou. Based on the fruitful outcome in the past, it is fair to say that the establishment of CAST-PKU Culture of Science Institute is believed to be a catalyst for PKU’s ongoing research on different science-related disciplines.
