The Inauguration Ceremony of the Institute of New Structural Economics held

Peking University, Dec. 15, 2018:  On the morning of December 14, the inauguration ceremony of the Institute of New Structural Economics (INSE) was held in Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchanges Center at Peking University.

PKU President Hao Ping attended the inauguration ceremony and delivered an inspiring speech. He said that the establishment of INSE is the beginning of the independent theoretical innovation in the field of social sciences in China. He wished that INSE could work hard to make theoretical innovation and disciplinary development, foster competent professionals, and promote cooperation at home and abroad, ultimately making great contributions to Chinese people and international academic community.

After that, some famous scholars and experts delivered keynote speeches. Edmund Phelps, the winner of Nobel Prize in Economics, said that Professor Justin Yifu Lin has been the leader of development economics for decades and INSE had great timing to explore independently new ideas and build a new partnership between China and the western world.

Arkebe Oqubay, special adviser to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, expressed his thanks to Professor Justin Yifu Lin and INSE for their policy advisory services to African countries.

Tian Lin, director of the Department of International Cooperation of China International Development Agency, hoped that INSE could deepen its involvement in the field of international development, especially the Belt and Road Initiative, by helping African countries and other developing countries to better plan their own development routes for the ultimate achievement of prosperity and strength.

Finally, Professor Justin Yifu Lin expressed his sincerest gratitude to all the guests. He said that the achievements since the beginning of Reform and Opening-up were a miracle in the economic history of the world. INSE aims to serve as a leading academic institute and a world-class flagship think tank by drawing lessons from the development experiences of China and the other developing countries, and by pioneering theoretical innovation, practical application and broad dissemination of New Structural Economics.


At the conclusion of the ceremony, Hao Ping and Justin Yifu Lin inaugurated INSE with guests.
