Outstanding Contributors to China’s Reform and Opening-up series

Peking University, Jan. 29, 2019: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) plans to honor 100 outstanding individuals who have made great contributions to China’s reform and opening-up. Three PKU teachers, Wang Xuan, Li Yining, and Justin Yifu Lin, were on the list, along with eight PKU alumni, Yu Min, Wang Jiafu, Robin Li  Yanhong, Zou Bihua, Hu Fuming, Zhong Nanshan, Tu Youyou and Fan Jinshi.


Fan Jinshi (1938 - ) is a member of the CPC and the honorary director of Dunhuang Academy. She engaged herself in the dating study on the Mogao Caves (also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes or Caves of the Thousand Buddhas) and successfully identified the traits of the Northern dynasties, Sui dynasty, and Tang dynasty. Since the Chinese economic reform (literally “reform and opening-up”), Fan Jinshi has persisted in the innovation of the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage. She created the database website “www.dunhuang.com” that shares digital information of Dunhuang Caves with the world, relieving the pressure of actual visiting on the frescos and sculptures.
