Peking University, Beijing, May 7th, 2009: The opening ceremony of the movie "Meng Er-dong", which reflects the touching stories of the national model teacher Meng Er-dong, was held in the PKU Centennial Commemorative Hall on May 6th. The ceremony was hosted by Zhao Weimin, Press Spokesman of Peking University and Minister of the Publicity Department of CPC PKU Committee. Mao Yu, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and Yang He, Deputy Secretary of CPC PKU Committee attended the premiere ceremony and addressed as guests.

The movie "Meng Er-dong" fully demonstrates the great life of Professor Meng Er-dong with vivid stories. Before his death, Meng Er-dong was a professor of Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Peking University and a PhD supervisor. He went to support education in Xinjiang Shihezi University in March 2004, and insisted to complete the teaching task with illness. General Secretary Hu Jintao praised him as "a model teacher with high morality." The Ministry of Personnel, the Ministry of Education awarded Prof. Meng Er-dong the honorary title of "National Model Teacher," and called on all the educators around China to learn from him.

The movie "Meng Er-dong" is the first film produced by PKU. Its opening ceremony was listed in the series of events to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the May 4 Movement and the 111th anniversary of Peking University. The film is expected to release on September 10th this year, and has been listed in the second batch of recommended videos in 2009 by the Film Board of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
