Four PKU Undergraduates Chosen as “Expo Stars”
Oct 30, 2009

Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 29, 2009: The namelist of 350 "Expo Stars" were announced at the 200 days countdown of Expo 2010 Shanghai China by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. The list included 4 Peking University (PKU) undergraduates: He Tao and Wang Qing from Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Wu Hongyuran and Huang Qi from School of Journalism & Communication. They will also become the official candidates for “2010 Shanghai Expo Registered College Journalist” and may have the chance to report the Expo as other officially registered journalists.

The selection of “Expo Star” includes “2010 Shanghai Expo College Environment Innovation Competition” and “Selection of College Registered Journalists”. There are 200 “Expo Stars” being selected from the “College Environment Innovation Competition” and the rest 150 “Stars” from the “Selection of College Registered Journalists”.

These 150 “Expo Stars” are chosen from 1540 college journalists coming from 415 colleges around 29 provinces. They will become the candidates for “2010 Shanghai Expo Registered College Journalist”. They are all influential at colleges and have excellent abilities in observation and press sensitivities.

Since last week, the four PKU students have already gone to Shanghai to attend the “2010 Shanghai Expo Registered College Journalist Training Camp”, and finished the training missions successfully. In the following months, the three students except He Tao will attend the final tests to strive for places in the 100 quotas of this selection.

If these three students can be chosen as registered college journalists, they will be treated as the officially registered journalists and become the members of the first batch of college journalists in the history of Expo. During the Expo, they will record every detail of China’s march towards World Expo with their young heart, and report the city’s tremendous changes from different views.

He Tao expressed that to participate and promote the 2010 Shanghai Expo is the responsibility for every PKU student, which is also a good chance for the current youth to show their excellent characters and outstanding abilities.
