[Centenary of the May Fourth Movement] Peking University publishes Marxism compilation Ma Zang

Peking University, May 5, 2019: On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, Ma Zang, a publication that compiles literature on the dissemination and development of Marxism in China and beyond, made its debut at Peking University on May 4. The book launch was attended by Peking University Council Chair Qiu Shuiping, other relevant PKU leaders, and numerous domestic scholars in the field of Marxism studies.

Qiu underscored the significance of this publication, saying that the mega project is a crucial step of delving deeper into the study of Marxism. Qiu added that the May Fourth Movement pushed forward the dissemination of Marxism in China, and Peking University, the cradle of such a patriotic campaign, naturally has the mission to propel the flourishing development of Marxism in the new era by strengthening discipline construction and talent cultivation in this field.


Qiu Shuiping

In 2015, Peking University has established the Center for Ma Zang Compilation, which is spearheaded by the School of Marxism. The book will have totally four series. As Ma Zang (Volume 1-5) is available to the public, Volume 6-10 are expected to be published later this year, so the total word count of Ma Zang will reach approximately 5,000,000. The editorial board will step up efforts to the compilation of the remaining series and gear for the release of Ma Zang , Ma Zang Ⅲ and Ma Zang Ⅳ

Following the launching ceremony of Ma Zang, a symposium on the early dissemination of Marxism in China was also held, with scholars from various institutions offering their insights and exchanging views on topics related to the Marxism-related research.
