The forum includes five parallel seminars: “economic reform and institutional innovation”, “international trade and international finance”, “environment, resources and climate change”, “finance, consumption and big data”, “enterprise growth, transformation and social responsibility”. Young researchers heatedly discussed these topics.

In each seminar, 12 representatives gave presentations and then answered questions. Students’ performances were highly praised by professors and 10 of total 60 stood out from all participants, who were going to compete for the highest honor of the forum——National Development Observation Award.

Focus on the subject of the times, share with our missions

The 10 representatives showed accurate and logical, clear arguments and smooth expression. Antagonisms as well as wits abound in the interaction between the teachers and students, winning wide acclaim of all the delegates and the audience.

After the end of the presentation, Liu Guoen made a concluding speech. Liu said that the presentations of the students reflected their close attention to China's economic development and high academic level. The topics and issues under discussion, such as precision poverty alleviation, pollution prevention and control, and Sino-US trade frictions, are closely related to the reality of China. The research paradigm and measurement methods a were used properly as well. Liu hoped that delegates could pay more attention to China's national conditions and cared more about the labor market participation, education and medical conditions of people in remote and poverty-stricken areas, and contributed more theoretical power to fighting against poverty.

After fierce competition, the winners of the first, second and third prize of the National Development Observation Awards came out and were awarded by the judges. On behalf of the organizers, Mr. Huang Heqing, a Ph.D. student of PKU National Development Research Institute, delivered a speech and expressed gratitude to all the teachers, delegates and all the staff of the Forum Organizing Committee, and wished the students a bright future.

One hundred years ago, the May Fourth Movement, a great patriotic revolutionary movement against imperialism and feudalism pioneered by advanced intellectuals and participated by the masses, opened a new chapter of China's new-democratic revolution. Over the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Chinese Communists and with the joint efforts of hundreds of millions of Chinese people, China experienced tremendous changes in the century. The Chinese miracle has attracted worldwide attention. Every era has its own responsibility and problems to be answered. Young intellectuals in this era shoulder the responsibility to concern about the current national development issues and to consolidate the related academic foundation. The holding of this forum wouldl further promote the PKU tradition to adapt to the trend of the times.
