PKU School of Transnational Law holds commencement

Peking University, May 27, 2019: On May 18th, 2019, School of Transnational Law (STL), Peking University held the commencement at the International Conference Center. A total of 81 postgraduates were awarded their degrees this year.


Class of 2019

Philip McConnaughay, dean of STL, congratulated all the graduates. He said that he was glad to witness the great achievements made by the graduates with Juris Doctor degree in American law (J.D. degree) as well as master’s degree in Chinese law (J.M. degree). He hoped that these graduates could shoulder the responsibility to make contributions to the legal affairs in China and beyond.

In his speech, Jeffrey Lehman, founding dean of STL, appealed to the graduates to focus on the important characteristics in this field. He suggested that the graduates should read a good book every month, keep in touch with STL peers and make their reflections on the past every five years.

Sang Yop Kang, professor of law at STL, delivered a speech on behalf of all faculty members. By sharing his own story, he encouraged the graduates to rise with challenges that they are likely to encounter in the future. He said that he firmly believed in their ability and passion.

Liu Chenying, valedictorian of Class 2019 at STL, shared her ideas at the ceremony after she have studied law for four years. She believes that as a law graduate of STL, she will stick to her original aspiration, strive to achieve self-worth, and forge ahead in pursuit of her dream.

Tian Wenchang, founding partner and honorary director of King & Capital Law Firm, discussed the relationship between the law and the public in his speech.
